Nicolas Anelka says he was quitting international football after the 2010 World Cup, and not after receiving his 18-match ban.
France striker Nicolas Anelka has revealed he intended to quit international football after the 2010 World Cup.
Anelka was sent home from les Bleus training camp during the South African event after having a disagreement with coach Raymond Domenech.
The French Football Federation [FFF] decided to suspend the 31-year-old Chelsea hitman for 18 matches, but Anelka insists that despite the suspension and announcement on retiring ,he had already made up his mind about ceasing to play international football.
The truth is that I told Domenech before the World Cup that I'd quit France after the competition whatever was to happen there," the forward told The Independent newspaper.
