Labour Strike Puts Siasia Unveiling in Spin

Samson Siasia's much anticipated public presentation fixed for yesterday was put off due to the threatening labour strike across the country. The strike has now been postponed.
Siasia has been contracted on a four-year contract by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the new Super Eagles coach. But the presentation billed for midday at he National Stadium, Abuja yesterday, had to be postponed indefinitely by the federation in the reality of the strike threat.

The former Olympic team coach is expected to officially resume duties at the start of next month.
A signed press release by NFF General-secretary Musa Amadu said: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to postpone the event immediately. We regret the inconveniences caused our invited guests, sponsors and the media. A new date will be announced later."s Siasia later turned up at the "Glasshouse" in company of his lawyer and wife, Sandra, where he held hurried discussions with federation officials regarding his new role with the national team.

Speaking tongue in cheek like, he told reporters that he was ready to start in his new capacity instead of being held back by his official unveiling. But one man who felt disappointed by the botched presentation was Siasia's former teammate in the national team, Etim Esin.
Esin said it was a shame the planned unveiling was put off by the NFF when most well wishers had turned up for the event. "Siasia and I played together in Belgium in the late 80s and also played together in the national team. I don't see any reason why the presentation should not have gone ahead," Esin queried. The former Lierse midfielder, however, commended the recent co-opting of ex internationals into committees by the federation, arguing that their experience will buoy up football growth in the country.
The controversy-hugging player says he would accept a role of a welfare officer with the federation, rather than join the coaching bandwagon.
