Armed robbers yesterday morning stormed The Radiant Parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Obanikoro, Lagos - carting away cash, mobile phones and other valuables worth millions of naira from the congregation. The robbers, who came in three motor bikes at exactly 10.00am when the church was singing praise and worship songs, asked the congregation to lie down after which they collected their wedding rings, cash, mobile phones, wrist watches and neck laces. Cladin suits, the robbers, who had initially positioned themselves in front of the church, struck when a member of the congregation was about entering the church. One of them accompanied the woman into the church and told the worshippers to lie down.
Two of the muggers were permanently stationed outside the church to ward off intruders, while the other three joined the one inside the church, entered the pastor’s office and the worker’s strong room where the day’s takings were snatched. Thereafter, they went upstairs to raid the children and youths auditorium. At the end of the operation, which lasted about 15 minutes no life was lost because the worshippers cooperated with the muggers, who were armed with guns.
