Etisalat in talks to buy Multi-Links

South Africa’s Telkom is reportedly in talks with UAE based Etisalat over the sale of its Nigerian CDMA network, Multi-Links. Telkom previously stated that it was looking to sell the Nigerian subsidiary, and Etisalat already owns an existing GSM and 3G license in the country.

According to reports citing a report by the Communications Workers Union (CWU), an option to sell 80% of the company to Etisalat was initially rejected by Telkom, but that talks are still continuing.

According to company’s executive, in the interim, it is common knowledge to the entire company that Multi-Links acting Chief Executive and acting CSMO (chief sales and marketing officer) are involved in discussions with Etisalat regarding the merger/sale due to the absence of viability of the company. This absence of viability was totally created and is still being engineered by them.

Telkom SA brought a 75% stake in the Nigerian mobile network operator in 2007 for US$280 million, and took full ownership in 200 for US$130 million.

Boko Haram Kills Three in Fresh Maiduguri Attack

 

Suspected members of Boko Haram are behind the killing of three more people at a hospital in Maiduguri, police said on Wednesday. The three victims, including a senior police officer, were killed Tuesday evening when some armed men fired shots into a teaching hospital in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. “An investigation has already commenced but I can tell you that we believe the killings must have been carried out by the Boko Haram since it was their mode of operations,” the Borno State police public relations officer said.

SIR ELTON JOHN BECOMES A FATHER VIA SURROGATE.

Sir Elton John and his partner have become parents to a son born to a surrogate mother in California. Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born on Christmas Day, the UK musician and his Canadian husband David Furnish told the Usmagazine.com website.
"Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents," said the couple. They provided no details about the surrogacy arrangement.

OBASANJO COLLAPSES IN CHURCH!!!

In this era when many female artistes easily fall over themselves, ready to do anything, including acting nude or even selling their bodies, to make quick money, a Port Harcourt based model, Nancy Wuzor, has revealed that she actually rejected a N10million naira offer to act nude.

JAMB Restricts South’East Universities from UTME.

 The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has suspended admission into state-owned universities in the South-East for the 2011/2012 session, following the prolonged strike by their lecturers.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, stated this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos.

Ojerinde also said the affected institutions had been deleted from the website of JAMB.

He said the decision was as a result of the protracted face-off between the institutions’ lecturers and their employers – the governments of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

NAN reports that the affected institutions have been closed for over three months due to disagreements between the lecturers and the state governments over the non-implementation of the enhanced lecturers’ pay approved by the Federal Government.

“There will be no admission in the schools for the 2011/2012 session. The factions in the strike should think of the implications of their actions on innocent students.

“They should resolve the strike and open the schools without further delay.

Wema Bank Nigeria To Close 17 Branches.

 

Wema Bank Plc is set to close 17 branches located in the South-West and Northern parts of the country to enable it operate a regional banking. Group managing director/chief executive of the bank, Mr. Segun Oloketuyi who disclosed this in Lagos on Tuesday at press a briefing said that for the bank to operate as a regional bank, 13 branches established in the North and four branches in the South -East would be shut down.

He said that the closure of those branches was necessary as the greater proportion of the bank’s infrastructure was in the South-South and South-West, by virtue of its origin, stressing that the bank has a greater concentration of its branches in Lagos and South-West.

He said that the branches within the region accounted for 98.8 per cent of the total loan portfolio and 96.9 per cent of deposit of the bank as at October, 2010.

He further pointed out that out of 154 branches operating across the country, 137 are located in the region where the bank has chosen to operate.

Dog gives birth to 17 puppies

A dog owner in Germany introduced her 17 Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies to the media.

The four-year-old mother Etana gave birth to the puppies in Ebereschenhof, north of Berlin on 28 September.

All 17 of the litter survived. Their owner, Ramona Wegemann has her work cut out caring for the puppies.

The 32-year-old animal psychiatrist had to feed the puppies five times a day for the first four weeks because their mother didn't have enough milk.

"When I was finished feeding the last puppy, the first was hungry again," Wegemann said.

The litter is unusual in that all were born naturally with no need for a Caesarian section.

Amazing six-wheel supercar debuts

An Italian company called Covini has revealed a peculiar six-wheeled supercar.

Despite its obscure looks, the Covini CV6 isn't the first high performance car with six wheels. The Tyrell P34 Formula One racer and the Panther 6 of the 1970s pipped Covini to the post.

Thanks to a partnership with industrial digger builder PMI, the CV6 is already being offered to interested (and wealthy) customers. It's an impressive effort, too - on paper at least. It's powered by a 440bhp 4.2-litre V8 taken from the Audi R8, which is mounted behind the driver and sends power to the rear wheels only. Covini claims that the extra pair of wheels at the front make the CV6 handle and stop more effectively than a normal four-wheeled car.

Other benefits include greater comfort and less risk if one of the tyres blows out suddenly.

However, the technical complexity of managing six wheels has always made such a car very tricky to produce. As a result, the CV6 won't come cheap - the price is rumoured to be around €300,000 (£250,000). The body has scissor-style doors and is made of carbon fibre and fibreglass, so it's light, weighing in at just over a tonne. There's no word on performance yet, but we'd expect a 0-62mph time of well under five seconds and a top speed of at least 180mph.

Kaduna State Central Market Burnt Down By Fire (N100M Gone!)

 The popular Abubakar Gumi central market in Kaduna metropolis, Kaduna State, yesterday went up in flames, destroying over 100 shops and property worth over N100 million.
The fire, which affected the yan manja (red oil) section of the market, however, was brought under control after several hours of effort by the Kaduna State Emergency Fire Service with assistance of security operatives, who were there to forestall hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation.

There are some elements in Yorubaland who have been and are still very upset with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They are very angry with him. They are so livid with him that the mention of his name would give them instant stomach ache. They can not stand him. They really hate his guts. They do despise him. They are so consumed with hatred for him that they are not willing to hide their feelings. In all their utterances, their actions and occasionally in their commentaries at all forums and through several media, they have not mince words in expressing how and what they feel about Asiwaju Tinubu.

In this category of my Yoruba brothers and sisters are some politicians, commentators, observers and onlookers. There are also some traditional rulers in this category. This category of Yoruba brothers and sisters would first of all accept a less deserving “outsider” before they would give Asiwaju Tinubu another look. If and when they do give him another look, it would be a sort of look imbued with venom and malevolence. It would be a look laced with carnivorous instinct that could spell doom for the target if acted upon.

A: I know you’ve seen women fall flat on their nose because they had four-inch heels on their soles. Nevertheless, high heels do make a woman more attractive. Her legs look longer, her strides are classier which would also aid the wriggle of her hips. See? A pair of heels has the ability to accentuate the female form causing the back to arch and pushing her bosom forward. Women feel sexy on heels. It gets her noticed because it takes her inches taller, and men love the exaggerated form of a woman, so it works. Heels elongate the legs, straighten the posture (thus pushing out the chest) and lift the bum.

In the fashion industry, when they say, ‘a woman can leave her house only in high heels,’ it translates to the fact that a pair of nice heels can save a woman’s look. She can put on just about anything, but with the right heels (and bag) she is transformed, miraculously!

Nobody said fashion would be easy, but it’s a lot of fun! Fine, we all know that high heels are very uncomfortable; they kill the ankle and leave you with an aching back! But who cares, as long as it makes you a sexy kitten for the hour, it’s fine!

Larry King wrapped up 25 years of his own show on CNN thursday night. His finale averaged 2.25 million viewers for the program, up more than 100% from what he typically gets.

The tributes keep pouring in for King, including a poem from Katie Couric and well wishes from Diane Sawyer and President Barack Obama. Former President Bill Clinton appeared on King’s final show, as he has many times.

King’s biggest ratings came all the way back in 1993 when he hosted a debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot. The Gore/Perot debate earned a whopping 16.8 million viewers.

This ranks as the 8th most watched cable program ever. King’s fans will miss him, but he isn’t completely going away. He will host certain events and specials for CNN in the coming year. Piers Morgan replaces King in 2011.

Australian Man Marries a Dog

 

An Australian man has surprised friends by getting married — to his pet dog of five years, a golden labrador called Honey.

Twenty-year-old Joe Guiso said the “marriage” ceremony performed by a friend in the Queensland town of Toowoomba was simply a creative and light-hearted way of bringing together family and friends.

 

“This was just an event for my friends and I to get together,” he told AFP on Friday. “It really was fun. We all dressed up in suits and everything.

“But you can’t actually marry a dog.”

Guiso, who revelled at a stag night at a friend’s house before the event, says while he loves his dog, it is “just Plutonic love.”

“There’s nothing sexual,” he said, adding that he hoped no one was offended by the unconventional pooch partnership. “It really should be taken lightly.”

Gyan Chosen as Top African Footballer

Ghanaian soccer star Asamoah Gyan has been named "BBC African Footballer of the Year," the broadcaster reports.

Gyan won the award "well ahead of fellow Ghanaian Andre 'Dede' Ayew, Ivorians Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon," the BBC said on its website. He received more than half the votes cast.

He was chosen in a poll by BBC listeners and viewers. Fans chose from a shortlist selected by experts from across the continent. Gyan has also been nominated for the Glo-CAF African footballer of the Year award, reports The Vanguard from Lagos.

Footballer whose fiance had affair with Terry's brother found hanged

Dale Roberts, 24, killed himself after his 25-year-old partner Lindsay Cowen had an affair with his football team-mate Paul Terry. Paul Terry is also former England football captain John Terry's older brother.  Earlier this year John Terry was caught in a scandal that rocked England where it was revealed that the Chelsea skipper had an affair with the girlfriend of fellow England teammate, Wayne Bridge. Roberts was found yesterday hanged at his £150,000 (S$310,000) flat he shared with childhood sweetheart Cowen until they split earlier this year. Friends said Roberts never got over the news that his fiance was seeing Paul, 31, and was unable to face his first Christmas without her, reported British newspaper The Daily Mirror. Roberts had been due to play for football club Rushden & Diamonds in an FA Cup Trophy replay against his old club Eastwood Town but failed to turn up for the match.
